TOPONOMI

TOPONYMY
According to tales of yesteryears, there was once a time when the village had been without a name. One day however, a merchant’s vessel (in Malay, it can be referred to as a ‘jong’) sailed towards and then docked by the riverside of the village. Without warning, a storm came over the area and sank the unfortunate vessel. There were no survivors from the ship. From that day onwards, the town was given the name ‘Lubok Jong’. The word ‘lubok’ in Malay can be translated as ‘sink’ or ‘bottom’. The village of Lubok Jong also shares a border with Kampung Selehor and its boundaries go on until it reaches a spooky, old railroad bridge (Kelab Pencinta Sejarah Kelate, 2012).
