Semabok is a small town located in the district of Melaka Tengah, Melaka (Semabok, 2014). It is located 5.6km to the East of Bandar Hilir using Route 5.
Residents were told that during the British colonisation, there was a British officer working at the place who was addressed by the locals as “Sir”. The British officer, however, was a drunkard. The Malay word for “drunkard” is “mabuk”, which was once spelled as “mabok”). Naturally, the British officer was referred as “Sir Mabuk” (Drunkard Sir) by the locals. The place where the British officer worked was later coined as “Sir Mabuk” and was subsequently transliterated as “Semabok” to suit the Malay spelling system. (Budakbaik, 2009).
